Our schools have stepped up to the challenge, and we want to make sure we are providing resources to help most efficiently move through this unprecedented challenge. National Council on Charter School Facilities The National Council on School Facilities is working to develop concise and uniform guidance for reopening & operating public school systems in this COVID-19 pandemic. Resources and tools have been developed in working sessions with the input of over 100 local district and state facilities officials as well as architects, planners, researchers, and civic leaders during 8 weekly webinars delivered by the National Council on School Facilities and Cooperative Strategies from April 2nd to June 4th.
NJ Coronavirus Legislation to Know
Signed into Law
S2383/A4142 Requires Commissioner of Education to establish three-year “Bridge Year Pilot Program” for certain students who were impacted by public health state of emergency caused by coronavirus disease 2019.
A3904/S2337 Permits use of virtual or remote instruction to meet minimum 180-day school year requirement under certain circumstances.
S2342/A3915 Permits nonprofit corporations to allow members to participate in meetings by means of remote communication and permits nonprofit corporations to hold meetings in part or solely by means of remote communication during state of emergency.
A3840/S2281 Requires school districts to provide school meals or meal vouchers to students eligible for free and reduced-price school meals during school closures due to COVID-19 epidemic.
Back to School Facilities Toolkit The Brooklyn LAB Back to School Facilities Tool Kit design process began by listening to and incorporating insights from a range of stakeholders, including families, public health experts, students, teachers, parents, guardians, and peer schools. Together, LAB, UPC, Gensler, PBDW, PSF Projects, SITU, and WXY developed a Tool Kit consistent with Center for Disease Control and The American Federation of Teacher’s (AFT) recommendations that explores: 1. Mapping a safe journey from home to the school, and 2. Upgrading the school.
New Jersey Public Assistance Resources This document outlines several public assistance resources, including mortgage and rent assistance, medical resources, mental health, food assistance and more.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Considerations for Schools This page includes several guidance documents and recommendations that schools can use as they develop their reopening plans.
This tool is designed to help parents, caregivers, and guardians weigh the risks and benefits of available educational options to help them make decisions about sending their child back to school. It is organized to provide parents and caregivers with:
- Information on COVID-19 and why safely reopening schools is so critical.
- Tools to:
- Help you assess your child’s and your family’s risk of COVID-19;
- Consider factors that will help you make a choice, if offered, of instructional format (e.g. virtual, in person, or a hybrid option); and
- Prepare for the school year, regardless of format.
