Travel & Transportation

The New Jersey Transit Service has routes from most major train stops in the United States to Atlantic City. Greyhound and the New Jersey Transit Service both offer bus service to Atlantic City. Greyhound has regular routes from New York City, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. If you live close by you can also check for local charter buses.

Take a taxi. If you do not want to rent a car you will need to take a cab from the airport—which is 14 miles away from the Boardwalk—for a flat and regulated rate of $27 to any casino. Taxis are also plentiful if you need to travel from casino to casino.

Rent a car. Hertz, Avis, and Budget are the only three car rental companies at Atlantic City International Airport, with rates usually in the range of $60 to $70 a day plus about 20 percent more in taxes and fees. If you rent a car or drive your own you should know that unlike in Las Vegas, you will pay to park in the parking garages here. The charge is usually $3 to $5 for 24 hours, but per city regulations, you are allowed to park in a second garage for free if you give the attendant your receipt from the first casino.

Take the jitney service. Once in Atlantic City, you can ride these small bus-like vehicles that stop frequently along the Boardwalk and at the Marina. Rides are $2, and 10-ride passes can be purchased for $17.50. A fourth transportation option on the Boardwalk is the rolling chairs pushed by attendants. The rates can vary, but are generally $5 for up to five blocks, $10 for six to 12 blocks, $15 for 13 to 21 blocks and $20 for 22 to 32 blocks.
